Hello! I’m Jeanette Joy Fisher, an interior designer who dreamed of living in a Victorian home as a child. My late husband and I were blessed to find this awesome home in Florida when we decided to move our family across the United States from California. The reason: the right special ed school for one of our daughters. We loved fixing this property and experimenting with my new love of a philosophy I discovered while living in this home — Design Psychology.

One of the family celebrations I created was on December 21, 1987. Since is is the shortest day of the year, and the darkest, I called this special dinner party Lucia Day. The girls dressed up in gold lamé thrift store prom dresses and the boys wore black pants and white dress shirts. We decorated the entire house with multiple trees, thousands of lights, and candles. We only used oil lamps and didn’t turn on any electric lights, other than the strings of Christmas lights. The idea was to appreciate the 1878 home as it was built without electricity. Every year, Brian would outdo himself decorating and cooking the feast. We still celebrate Lucia Day.

I invite you to create a special celebration of your own.  Share it with me! Email JeanetteJoy at gmail. Read about Lighting Psychology.
